Starlink has issued an urgent requirement for all users to update their terminals before November 17, 2025, to avoid permanent loss of service. According to a report by TechTimes and analyses shared via YouTube, the update is related to major network-wide changes, including security certificate renewals and encryption upgrades across Starlink’s satellites, ground stations, and customer terminals.

WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU DO NOT UPDATE

Starlink warns that any terminal running software version 2024.05.0 or older will no longer communicate with the satellite network after November 17. If your dish has not been powered on in 2025, it could become permanently disabled and unable to recover after the deadline.

WHO IS AFFECTED

• Users who have not powered on or updated their dish this year.
• Those who keep spare or backup kits in storage.
• Owners of unactivated units purchased from retail outlets.

If your kit is inactive or not linked to a Starlink account, you may not receive the official email alert, but you are still affected.

HOW TO UPDATE YOUR STARLINK DISH

You do not need an active subscription to perform the update. Follow these steps:

1. Plug your Starlink terminal into power.
2. Place it outside or in an open area with a clear view of the sky.
3. Wait 15–30 minutes for the automatic update to complete.
4. Check your software version via the Starlink app under Advanced → Starlink → Software Version.
